About the Project
Goa Portuguesa Concerts London is the archive home of the London summer concerts formerly known as Goan Interactions. Organised by the Baluji Music Foundation with Melville Rodrigues and Oscar Castellino, the series celebrates Goa's unique Konkani and Portuguese musical heritage — song, traditional mandos, Portuguese numbers, and Indian classical improvisation reflecting Goa as a meeting point of India and Portugal.
The latest edition took place on 20 June 2026 at St. Stephen's Church, Dulwich, with over 200 in the audience. The full concert is available on YouTube below, alongside recordings from earlier editions.

Baritone / Vocals · Co-organiser
British Goan opera baritone who has performed since the series began, and programmes the concerts with Mark Troop. Co-organiser with Melville Rodrigues and the Baluji Music Foundation.
Vocals
Guest singer from Goa for the 2026 London concert — bringing Lorna/Chris Perry classics and Portuguese song to Dulwich for her first London musical show.
Piano · Arranger
Acclaimed pianist and arranger with deep experience in Goan music. Programmed early editions with Patricia Rozario and returned in 2026 for programming and arrangements including Terra Mãe and Susegado Goa.
Viola
Award-winning Japanese viola player and Royal Academy of Music graduate (Baluji Music Foundation), performing On the Spring Wind and joining the 2026 ensemble's classical–world fusion.
Tabla & Ghumot
Disciple of SNA Pt. Vijay Shankar Mishra, carrying more than two decades of the Banaras tradition — tabla and ghumot for the 2026 improvisation and ensemble numbers.
Sitar
Sitarist trained in Edinburgh and Varanasi (Etawah and Benares gharanas). For 2026 he joined Manmohan Dogra for Indian classical improvisation on a popular Goan tune.

Percussionist who assisted Baluji Shrivastav in early editions, adding North Indian rhythmic colour to the Goan–Portuguese programme.

Portuguese soprano featured in the June 2025 Dulwich concert — opera arias, Cancão do Mar, and the Tambde Rosa duet with Oscar Castellino.

The Original Setting
The 2025 and 2026 summer concerts were performed in Dulwich — an intimate, warm setting with a countryside-in-London character, welcomed by Reverend Canon Bernard Schünemann.
The Story
The series began as Goan Interactions, devised by Linda Shanson and Baluji Shrivastav OBE of the Baluji Music Foundation, which champions music by blind musicians and music from South Asia. They wanted to give a platform to Goan music largely unexplored in the West.
They collaborated with esteemed opera soprano Patricia Rozario and pianist Mark Troop for the first concert in 2021. Patricia and Mark programmed the early editions. Baluji Shrivastav OBE added Indian classical colour, assisted by Yusuf Ali Khan on percussion.
Oscar Castellino, a singer from the early editions, took up programming in 2025 with Portuguese soprano Sofia Bagulho among the guests. In 2026 Mark Troop returned, and the summer concert — organised with lead sponsor and organiser Melville Rodrigues — is presented in this archive as Goa Portuguesa Concerts London.
